La grande brassée

“La Grande Brassée” is an act of questioning everyday life. It is a reminiscence of the old washhouses, a breakdown of the barriers surrounding household chores. The poetry of cleaning is shared by the community.

In Montreal, rainwater is entirely channeled into the sewers. When these are insufficient, the excess is directed into the “Saint-Laurent” River. This waste causes significant damage to the city’s infrastructure. The device around which “La Grande Brassée” is organized allows for the collection of rainwater to be used in manual washing machines.
