44 x 55
The reinterpretation of the mechanical joint is the basis of the reflection embodied by the 44 x 55 chair. This project uses a single piece of Douglas Fir wood measuring 44 mm by 55 mm. These pieces are assembled around the seat, which serves as the connection hub for the entire chair. The assembly is carried out by one unique steel pieces that allow the members to connect to the seat at various angles.
In this project, we have reinterpreted the mechanical joint by exploring the potential of the “knife plate” type joint, commonly used to join structural wood elements with a metal plate.
